Fried Chicken in the Airfryer

Hi! So it’s Thursday, and it’s a busy day for us. My oldest is performing in a concert tonight with the choir and my middle daughter has play practice until 6. Lots of rushing around to get everyone where they need to be, and then picked up again.  On days like this I try to plan a quick dinner that is somewhat healthy.  For dinner tonight we are throwing some drumsticks in the airfryer with a salad and veggies on the side.

The prep time actually takes longer than cooking the chicken when I use the airfryer. It is magical. I can fit about 6 pieces in at a time, which is more than enough for the kid’s dinner.  After the drumsticks are breaded and seasoned, I place them into the basket (without crowding them up too much) and then set the temperature and the time.  Let it cook for ten minutes, carefully take the basket out and flip the chicken over and cook for another ten minutes.  They come out soooo good! If you’re interested, we have the 3.4 quart Power Airfryer. I have been using this more often than the oven, just because it is quick and very easy to clean. It is also nice that it isn’t that big, so it doesn’t clutter up the countertop. Keep scrolling if you want the recipe we are using for tonight’s dinner!

Air fryer Fried Chicken

 AirFryer Chicken Drumsticks -Juicy and crispy and they cook in 20 minutes! Super easy recipe that tastes great without using oil.

 Cook Time 20 minutes
 Total Time 50 minutes
 Servings 6 pieces

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs chicken drumsticks (4-6 pieces)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (120ml)
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs (30g)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (60g)
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp celery salt
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp butter melted

Instructions

  1. Place the drumsticks in a plastic bag and pour the buttermilk into the bag. Squeeze the air out and seal the bag. Let marinate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes minimum up to several hours.
  2. In a bowl combine the panko breadcrumbs, flour, baking powder, and spices.
  3. Preheat AirFryer to 390°F (200°C)
  4. Remove the drumsticks from the buttermilk, shake off excess buttermilk, and dredge the drumsticks in the seasoned flour mixture to coat on all sides.
  5. Put the chicken drumsticks in the  Airfryer basket and air fry for 10 minutes. (You might see smoke a little bit during the first minute, don’t worry this is normal)
  6. Then pause the AirFryer and coat the drumsticks with melted butter on both sides. Turn the chicken over, lower the temperature to 300°F (150°C) and air fry for 10 more minutes or until internal temperature reads 165°F (79°C).
  7. Remove and let the drumsticks cool for 5 minutes before serving.
