Teen Gift Guide: Top Gifts for 2017

teen gift guide 2017, teenagers, boys, girls gifts for teens

Hello! Welcome to my Teen Gift Guide for 2017.  All of the items on this list are straight from the minds of my wacky teenage daughters.  (Yes, two teenage girls and it is just as frightening as it sounds.) Whether you are shopping for Christmas or Hannukah gifts, there is bound to be something on this list that you’ve heard your kid ask for.  It is a little heavy on the technology products.

However, just because they ask for something, doesn’t mean they are getting it!

I also came up with a few ideas that they probably won’t ask for, but could definitely use.  My girls never ask for sweat pants and sweat shirts, but they love to receive them.  They have a ton of hoodies, but I was thinking about buying them some sets from their school spiritwear.  And on that note, a high school ring or varsity jacket might make a nice gift.

Below is a list of items that I have separated into six different categories.  There is definitely something for everyone!

For Gamers:

Xbox One – I know a lot of teens, mostly guys, play the Madden NFL and Call of Duty on Xbox.  My daughters mostly use our Xbox to watch Netflix, but occasionally play Epic Mickey and Connect Adventures.

PlayStation 4 – Also a very popular console.  This has a built in blue ray player (no scratched discs!) and a large variety of games.  I know Madden and Call of Duty are big, but I prefer games like Grand Theft Auto.

Nintendo Switch – This console has such an awesome feature.  It can be hooked up to your television or used as a handheld device.  My girls asked for this specifically because of Mario Kart 8.  There is also Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda, and Sonic Forces (Sonic the Hedgehog!).

Droids and Drones:

R2-D2 App-Enabled Droid by Sphero – Controlled by an app on your phone, this Star Wars droid has LED lights and an integrated speakers.

DROCON Drone For Beginners – So many kids are looking to get their hands on a drone.  They are pretty cool, when used responsibly.  This one is great for beginners since it has the one key return button.  It is equipped with real time WIFI and a 720 p camera.

Apple Lovers:

Apple Smart Watch – It is expensive, but definitely an awesome gift.  I wouldn’t mind receiving one!  It connects to your phone via Bluetooth, and you can access all of your apps right on your wrist.  It also connects to the Internet.

Apple iPhone 8 – Just because it is the latest and greatest model, aside from the iphone X, which I haven’t heard great things about.  If you are a family that likes to keep up with the newest phones, this is a great option.  Our family is still using the 5s and 6, and they are content for now.

Universal USB 4 Port Wall Charger– I added this to the list even though it could be great for the entire family.  This has 4 ports to charge phones, ipods, and ipads.  No more fighting over chargers. (This is universal so it can be used with brands other than Apple)

Music Lovers:

Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones – These headphones are adjustable for maximum comfort.  They are wireless with up to 40 hours of battery life.  You can also take calls on them.  And they come in a variety of colors.

Wireless Bluetooth Speaker, Outdoor Portable Stereo Speaker – I thought this was great because it can be used indoors or outside, up to 30 feet from your device.  It has a four hour battery life and built in FM radio.  It can connect to several different devices, from your phone, Ipad, or chromebook.  There’s also a built in microphone, so you can take calls, too.

Book Lovers:

Harry Potter Complete Book Series – I know the series isn’t new, but this is a special edition boxed set with the newly designed covers.  They really are beautiful!

Warriors Box Set: Volumes 1 to 6:  – This is the first series and my daughter highly recommends.  It also happens to be a #1 national seller.  It tells the story of four clans of wild warrior cats, with six books in the first series.

Join Amazon Kindle Unlimited 30-Day Free Trial – Unlimited reading and you can choose from over a million books and thousands of audiobooks for only $9.99/month.  With the link you get a 30 day free trial.

Creative:

82 Piece Deluxe Art Creativity Set – Perfect for someone who likes to draw or sketch.  This set comes with

  • 24 colored pencils, 24 oil pastels, 24 watercolor cakes, 3 Mixing trays, 2 drawing pencils, 2 paint brushes, sharpener, ruler, eraser
  • Field Sketch Book, Watercolor Paper Pad, Drawing Sketch Pad
  • 15-Piece Brush Set, 10-Well Plastic Palette & Color Mixing Wheel

Leonardo da Vinci Catapult Kit – Building a catapult sounds like fun.  This kit comes with everything necessary to complete the project.  It includes:

  • Comes complete with all pieces pre-cut and ready to assemble
  • Glue included
  • Suitable for beginner model makers
  • Easy to understand instructions

Shopping for teenagers is definitely a challenge.  If none of these seems like suitable gifts for your teen, there is always gift cards or cash.  Who doesn’t love receiving money?

Let me know what your teens have on their gift list! And better yet….Are you actually considering buying it for them?!
